چکیده

The oxidation of both low and high-activity simple and Pt-modified aluminide coatings on nickel base superalloy IN738 has been studied in static air at 1100 OC up to 1000 h. For all coatings oxidation followed a parabolic law up to 400 h. The two Pt-modified coatings showed better protectiveness with lower mass gains and smaller rate constants, especially for long reaction times. The presence of Pt significantly improved the resistance to y'-~isAl formation, promoted selective oxidation of aluminium by preventing the transport of other elements outwards to A203 scale and resulted in the formation of purer, slower-growing and more adherent A1203 scales, delaying the onset of scale spalling for two types of coatings and of oxide nodules growth for the high aluminium activity coating.

Nickel base superalloy alloys are used in the manufacture of gas turbine engine components, which in use are exposed to high temperatures and corrosive environments. The platinum aluminide coatings described here have been developed to protect nickel base superalloy alloys from oxidation. In this study, the effect of cyclic oxidation, platinum layer thickness and aluminizing process on beha...

Formation and Evaluation of Oxidation Behavior of Zirconia- Aluminide Coating on Nickel- Based Alloy

Practical applications of thermal barrier coatings with aluminide bond-coats are limited due to oxide scale spallation of the aluminide coating under applied thermal stresses. Considering the positive effects of oxygen-active elements or their oxides on the high temperature oxidation behavior, in this research zirconia was introduced into an aluminide coating. For this purpose, a Watts type bat...

Preparation and Isothermal Oxidation Behavior of Zr-Doped, Pt-Modified Aluminide Coating Prepared by a Hybrid Process

To take advantage of the synergistic effects of Pt and Zr, a kind of Zr-doped, Pt-modified aluminide coating has been prepared by a hybrid process, first electroplating a Pt layer and then co-depositing Zr and Al elements by an above-the-pack process. The microstructure and isothermal oxidation behavior of the coating has been studied, using a Pt-modified aluminide coating as a reference. Resul...

Aluminide Coatings for Power Generation Applications

In order to form model aluminide coatings for studying critical issues related to their high temperature oxidation and corrosion performance, a laboratory chemical vapor deposition (CVD) procedure is being used to more rigorously control the coating process in terms of composition, purity and microstructure. One ferritic (Fe-9Cr1Mo) and one austenitic alloy (304L) were selected as substrate mat...

Rhodium and Hafnium Influence on the Microstructure, Phase Composition, and Oxidation Resistance of Aluminide Coatings

A 0.5 μm thick layer of rhodium was deposited on the CMSX 4 superalloy by the electroplating method. The rhodium-coated superalloy was hafnized and aluminized or only aluminized using the Chemical vapour deposition method. A comparison was made of the microstructure, phase composition, and oxidation resistance of three aluminide coatings: nonmodified (a), rhodium-modified (b), and rhodiumand ha...
